Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a gold-masoned black wall section with four battlements and centered behind it an upright gold torch with red flame between two crossed gold battle-axes enclosed in base by a semi-circular gold scroll inscribed with the words "SERVES THE SELECT" in red letters.

Symbolism
The flaming torch rising from behind the wall symbolizes the free city of Berlin and the "Wall of Shame" which seals it off from the rest of the world.  The battle-axes supporting the torch alludes to the Special Troops, Berlin Brigade who are there to help safeguard its freedom.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 19 January 1967.
